What CEVO 5 Ambulance Covers

Intersection Safety

The most common site of ambulance crashes – operators learn systematic clearing techniques, right-of-way management, and how lights and sirens create a dangerous false sense of priority.

Lights and Sirens

When to use them, how to use them, and the risks that come with them. Covers the gap between perceived and actual right-of-way, and the decision-making framework for emergency response activation.

Distracted Driving

Visual, manual, and cognitive distraction during emergency operation – including MDT use, fatigue, and how divided attention compounds risk at the exact moments it matters most.

Vehicle Dynamics & Characteristics

How ambulances handle differently from standard vehicles – weight distribution, braking distance, rollover risk, and the physics behind why emergency driving demands a higher level of operator awareness.

Backing & Low-Speed Maneuvering

A leading cause of fleet damage and near-miss events. Covers spotter protocols, spatial awareness, and the behind-the-wheel exercises that build the muscle memory to prevent them.

Emergency Driving Behavior & SCC

Stationary collision countermeasures, due regard, and the psychology of decision-making under emergency conditions.

Adverse Weather & Special Conditions

How to adjust speed, following distance, and decision-making in rain, snow, ice, and low-visibility conditions – where standard driving habits become dangerous.

Ambulance Operators & The Law

Due regard, liability exposure, and the legal framework operators are held to every time they activate lights and sirens. What the law expects – and what happens when it isn't met.

Roadway Incident Scene Safety

How to approach, position, and operate safely at active incident scenes – where secondary crashes are a documented and preventable risk.
